As long as sunflower seed is available, these birds won’t eat much else at feeders. The attraction is probably due to the fact that they have higher proportions of fat and protein than other common grains. For these reasons it is best to offer pure sunflower seed in separate feeders to prevent these birds from digging through and wasting mixed seed to get to the sunflower seed.

Lastly, you should be more meticulous in your choice of materials for the feeder. If you have to use wood, you have to make sure to use only untreated ones. And do not use paints or any other finishing which may contain arsenic. Otherwise, it will only poison the birds.

Once you are done building your birdhouse, you will need to find a good location, that is away from any danger, such as cats, and weather. A good location would be somewhere in your property that doesn’t have to much human activity, but will allow you to view the birds without interference. The birdhouse can be hung on a tree, or mounted to a pole or tree limb, and should be at least 3 to 10 feet high.
The site where you’re going to place the bird feeder matters a lot. It has to somewhere where it can serve its purpose of attracting birds best. Aside from that it has to remain visible to onlookers as well. That is why mounting a feeder several feet above the ground is a good idea.
