First, apply stain on the wood. Choose a color that looks more antique, like earthy colors. Secondly, use fine sandpaper over the stain to imitate the wear and tear of antique surfaces. You can refer to an antique piece to see where the tears are located.

You can rush through many things, but you cannot rush through a detailed woodworking project. The old phrase measure twice and cut once is as true and accurate today as the day it was first spoken. While you can save lots of money by making things like gun cabinets yourself the hardwoods and other materials are still not cheap. One rushed cut can blow your entire budget for a project.
The spindle moulder is often considered to be one of the most dangerous woodworking machines, but there is a variety of safety equipment that can minimise the risk. The most basic is a plastic guard which comes with the moulder and sits above the cutter. It spins freely and is intended to prevent the operator’s hands inadvertently touching the cutter. At the other end of the scale, you can get a power feeder which keeps the operator’s hands far away from the cutters.

Today we are looking at two very different kinds of moulder; a spindle moulder and a planer moulder.
The Arts and Craft Movement in America can trace its humble beginning back to late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Most of the furniture of the era was being mass produced, highly decorative, and to some, shabby in appearance and workmanship. While at the same time, Europe was under going a cultural revolution, lead chiefly by William Morris, who later became infamous for his “Morris Chair”, and fellow Britisher John Ruskin, against this mass produced, and highly decorated style of furniture. These followers of the Arts and Craft Movement preached a return to handcrafted styles and a philosophy of a simpler life. The young American, Gustav Stickley, during a trip to Europe, became a disciple of the movement and the world of woodworking and furniture in America was forever changed.
Safety
Fishtail Oak gets its name from the mottled, almost iridescent pattern that contains black marbling, resembling the scales on a fish. Each piece of wood will vary in color, but in general will be a golden tan to coppery color with occasional rose, burgundy, or silver overtones. Fishtail Oak is not in the same botanical family as the Oak most commonly found in American wood shops, and is not a native wood to North America. Unlike a true Oak, which stains quite easily due to the open pore structure of the wood, this wood has a much tighter pore structure which is not recommended for staining. Clear polyurethanes are the ideal finishes, as opposed to lacquer, Shellac, or Varnish which rely on penetrating the pores of the wood to achieve their luster.
